Josiase is an actuary with extensive insurance experience, having worked within several leading South African firms prior to joining Vitality. He adds an actuarial perspective to Vitality’s research and development efforts, providing analytical support to the development and evaluation of current and prospective programes. He has co-authored several papers with leading researchers on the effectiveness of various incentives in promoting healthy eating, regular exercise, and regular health screening among medically insured South Africans.
Josiase started his career as a consultant with Deloitte Southern Africa, after which he worked for a short time at a state owned special risks insurer. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Actuarial Science from the University of the Witwatersrand and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries in Scotland and the Actuarial Society of South Africa. In his role with the Vitality Institute, Josiase is an essential bridge between the data available through Discovery and the studies built on those to better understand and demonstrate effectiveness of interventions.
